Vernetta Schumacher passed away Saturday August 23, 2014 surrounded by her family at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen, SD.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father J. Joseph Holzhauser, Celebrant. Burial follows at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may sign her online guestbook at schriversmemorial.com.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, at the mortuary, with a Liturgical Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before Mass at church on Tuesday.

Vernetta was born in rural Edmunds County on November 24, 1931 to Helmuth and Mary (Nehlick) Preszler.

On Vernetta's 17 birthday she married Joseph J. Schumacher on November 24th, 1948 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich, SD. Vernetta and Joe moved to Aberdeen where Vernetta first worked for McKeever Press and then worked at Western Printing for the next 45 years.

Vernetta belonged to St. Mary's Parish and was a member of the Aberdeen Moose Lodge since 1965; the mission of the Moose Lodge was very important to her and she dedicated many hours of her time volunteering at the Aberdeen Moose Lodge.

Vernetta was known for her sharp wit and her love of her family. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving Vernetta are children Carol Schumacher of Aberdeen, Susan (Stephen) Pietrus of Pierre, Michael (Nancy) Schumacher of Aberdeen, Patrick (Nita) Schumacher of Aberdeen, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Schumacher of Mitchell and daughter-in-law Sherry (Joseph) Schumacher of Aberdeen; one brother Robert Preszler of Hagerstown, MD; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Vernetta was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Melbert (Carol) Preszler), her husband Joseph J and her son Joseph M.
