Velma Piatz, 93, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Monday, August 29, 2022, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.
A private graveside committal service will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery on Monday, September 19, 2022.
Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook.
Velma Pfeiffer was born March 22, 1929, to Gottlieb and Anna (Heiser) Pfeiffer in Eureka, SD. She spent her childhood in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School in 1947.
After graduating, Velma moved to Aberdeen and later married Robert Sahli in 1951. Together they had three sons, Keith, Tom, and Robb. Robert passed away in 1958 due to injuries sustained from a car accident.
In 1960, Velma married Robert Piatz in Aberdeen. Together they had two sons, Brian and Derrick.
Velma worked as a receptionist for Presentation College where she was employed for many years. Robert passed away in 2006 and Velma continued to make Aberdeen her home.
In her free time, Velma loved to play cards and belonged to many card clubs. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, and traveling. Velma especially enjoyed her time spent with friends and family. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for many years.
Velma is survived by her four sons: Keith Sahli of Aberdeen, SD, Tom Sahli of Aberdeen, SD, Robb Sahli of Glendale, CA, and Derrick Piatz of Mina, SD; granddaughter Michael Sahli, of Sherman Oakes, CA; one brother Milo Pfeiffer of Aberdeen, SD; and one sister, Elva Schmidt of Seattle, WA.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son, Brian Piatz; two brothers; and one sister.
