Tillie A. Mehlhaff, 95, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen.

Her wishes were to be cremated and have a private Graveside Committal Service at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Aberdeen.

Tillie Ann Binfet was born on April 13, 1929, to Joseph and Katherine (Heier-Hartman) Binfet in Onaka, SD. She was raised by her aunt and uncle for six months. Tillie went to live with her father on a farm, where her sister took care of her. When she was three and a half years old, her father married her stepmother, Margaret.

Tillie was baptized at St. John’s Catholic Church in Onaka, SD, where she also attended grade school. She later moved to Aberdeen, SD with her parents where she worked as a Certified Nurses Aide at Avera St. Luke’s. Later she worked at the Corner Grocery Store.

Tillie was united in marriage to Harold Mehlhaff on June 14, 1949. To this union, five children were born: David, Kathy, Marsha, Mary, and Ann.

Tillie cherished spending time with her family and cooking for them. She also enjoyed embroidering pillows and towels, playing cards, and playing her accordion and piano.

Grateful for having shared Tillie’s life are her children: Kathy (Mike) Buechler, Marsha Mehlhaff, Mary (Karley) Hoffman, and Ann (Jim) Leverton; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Mehlhaff; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anne Vetch and Agnes Imberi.

Tillie was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Katherine Binfit; husband, Harold Mehlhaff; twin sister; son David Mehlhoff; seven brothers; seven sisters; and one granddaughter, Amy Buechler.
