Thomas J. "Spud" Casanova, 59, of Aberdeen, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.
Tom's wishes were to be cremated with burial taking place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Aberdeen on Monday.
A private family service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Chapel in Aberdeen with Pastor Jeff Whillock officiating.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Public visitation will be 3-5 p.m., Sunday, at the mortuary, followed by a public prayer service at 5:00 p.m.
Thomas J. Casanova was born December 4, 1956, to George Robert and Ruth Patricia (Gunderson) Casanova in Aberdeen, SD. This is the area where he was raised and attended school. He played for the Aberdeen Cougars and youth baseball through high school. Tom was a 1975 graduate of Aberdeen Central High School.
Following graduation, Tom began working as a courier at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, where he remained employed for many years.
In 1992, Tom was united in marriage to Julie Hansen in Aberdeen. Their union was blessed with one son, Corey. The family made Aberdeen their home where Tom worked for Speedy Delivery Service before beginning employment with Premier Facility Maintenance, where he was employed at the time of his death.
Tom was an avid sports fan, especially of the New England Patriots. He loved all types of sports; especially golf. He enjoyed attending various sporting events and coaching Corey's youth sports teams. He was also involved with the Aberdeen Smitty's Baseball Team for many years.
Grateful to have shared in Tom's life are his son, Corey Casanova of Aberdeen; his parents, George and Ruth Casanova of Aberdeen; his brothers: Steve (Pat) Casanova of Aberdeen, Chuck (Robin) Casanova of Gretna, NE, Dan (Karla) Casanova of Rapid City, SD and Jeff (Paula) Casanova of Aberdeen; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Tom is preceded in death by his grandparents and one infant brother, James Alan Casanova.
