Thomas "Tom" R. McTague, 69, of Aberdeen, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020, at Avantara Nursing Home, Groton, SD.  His wishes were to be cremated.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, with Father Mark Lichter, Celebrant.

Burial, with military rites, follows at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Thomas Robert McTague was born October 11, 1950, in Brookings, SD to Robert Hugh and Rose “Tootie” (Gengler) McTague.  At a young age, Tom moved with his family to Aberdeen, where he was raised, attended school, and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School.

Tom entered the United States Navy on January 6, 1970, and served his country during the Vietnam War.  He received his Honorable Discharge on September 23, 1975, and returned to the states.

Tom worked in the V.A. Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota before transferring to the V.A. Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1994.  While living in Florida, Tom met his soul mate, Peggy Lou Davis, and they were united in marriage on September 11, 2004, in West Palm Beach.  Following Tom’s retirement from the V.A. Hospital in 2012, the couple moved to Aberdeen.  Peggy passed away on their 14th wedding anniversary, September 11, 2018.  Tom continued to make Aberdeen his home until November of 2019, when he became a resident at Avantara Groton.

Grateful to have shared Tom’s life are his son, Robert McTague of South Carolina; his mother, Rose “Tootie” McTague of Aberdeen; his brother, Jeff (Lori Baldwin) McTague of Aberdeen; and his sisters:  Linda Marko of Aberdeen, Sr. Barbara McTague of Sioux Falls, SD, Susan (Paul) Kocer of Ft. Morgen, CO, Lisa (Tom) Berbos of Helena, MT, Laurie Bomar of Redfield, SD and Amy (Ron) Pasch of Cottage Grove, MN.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; his father, Robert Hugh McTague; and one brother, Ron McTague.
