Susan Barker

Susan M. Barker, 56, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Aberdeen with Father Michael Kapperman officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the mortuary from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, with a liturgical wake and rosary at 7 pm.

Visitation will continue one hour before Mass at the church.

Susan M. Barker was born on April 8, 1967, to Darrell Wayne and Georgia (Ferricks) Gustafson in Sioux Falls, SD.  She attended grade school, elementary school, and Washington High School, in Sioux Falls, SD.  Susan married Tim Barker on April 23, 1984, in Sioux Falls, SD.  The couple was blessed with two daughters; Nicole, and Christin.

Susan loved being a homemaker.  She also enjoyed the outdoors and loved to garden, hike, and go on nature walks. She was an avid reader.  She also loved to sew and enjoyed making dresses for her family.  The family moved to Florida while Tim was in the Air Force, later transferring to Iceland, and returned to Sioux Falls after serving in Iceland.  They also lived in Tucson, AZ for a short time, and once again returned to Sioux Falls.  In 2006 the family moved to Aberdeen, and have resided here since.

Grateful for having shared Susan’s life are her husband Tim of 39 years, her two daughters: Nicole (Justin) Vaske of Spencer, IA, and Christin (Joshua) Bird of Bismarck, ND; six grandchildren: Jocelyn, Cailyn, Braelyn, and Gavin Bird, and Emily and Nicholas Vaske.

Susan was preceded in death by her father.
