Stuart N. Quam was born on February 1, 1962, to Everett N. and Jeanie (Gaub) Quam. Aside from leaving for optometry school, Stuart happily lived his life in South Dakota. Stuart graduated from Pierre High School in 1980 and obtained his undergraduate education from the University of South Dakota. In 1987 he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago.

Stuart and his wife, Colette, were married on May 27, 1995. The following years were filled with special times with their family and friends and many adventures. Their favorite annual events included the Jack & Jill golf tournament and hosting a fireworks show on the 4th of July. They also enjoyed playing pickleball together and traveling to various destinations to be with friends and family. Stuart and Colette had countless precious experiences together with their family and friends, from hiking and visiting museums, to watching their nephew play basketball, watching their grandsons play hockey, and playing just about a million rounds of golf with friends and family. Stuart participated in every activity with smiles, laughter, words of encouragement, and memorable quips.

Stuart had many hobbies that made him happy and fulfilled, including golf, pickleball, fishing, hunting, and long-range target shooting. Stuart treasured his time hunting and fishing with his dad. He also cherished the many friends that he made through golf and his other hobbies.

Starting from his early childhood experience with successful eye surgery and throughout his 35 years in the field of Optometry, Stuart consistently displayed a strong passion for optometry and demonstrated his commitment to patient care. He spent 32 wonderful years with Vision Care Associates. His career was rewarding, and Stuart also met some of his best friends through work. It was such a blessing for him to work with friends and caring colleagues.

Stuart’s family will forever remember him for his honest and cheerful personality, his unique humor, and his love and support. Stuart’s presence we will miss, his memory we will treasure, loving him always, forgetting him never.

Grateful for having shared Stuart’s life is his wife, Colette; his parents, Everett and Jeanie; his sister, Kelly (Kevin) Flynn; his stepdaughter, Jennifer (Stefan) Hull; his grandchildren, Anders and Caleb; his nephew, George; and many loving friends.
