Steven "Steve" C. Mammenga

Steven C. "Steve" Mammenga, 68, of Pierre, SD, and formerly of Belle Fourche and Aberdeen, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Avera St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.

Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 624 North Jay St, Aberdeen, with Pastor Terry Naasz officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at church.

Steve requested a casual ceremony, and requested that everyone wear camouflage.

Steven Carl Mammenga was born May 10, 1946, in Sibley, Iowa to Louis and Verna (Schnepf) Mammenga. He grew up in George and Rock Rapids, Iowa and attended school and graduated from Lyon High School.

Steve married Janice Jean Schock August 12, 1967, in Forbes, North Dakota, before moving to Aberdeen, SD, where he started working for John Morrell and for Bob and Alma Omland at the Corner Grocery. John Morrell closed in 1988, and Steve took a job with the State of South Dakota in Belle Fourche as a motor carrier inspector. Steve was medically retired from the State of South Dakota in 2004.

Steve's fondest memories were in the outdoors hunting and fishing. Many will remember that any given weekend you could find Steve with family and close friends in the Lund on Lake Oahe or in the pasture and farm ground around Forbes hunting gophers, rabbits, coyote, pheasants, grouse, or deer.

Steve was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Aberdeen and Spearfish.

Steve is survived by his wife, Jan Mammenga of Pierre, SD; children: Dave (Tanya) Mammenga of Pierre, SD, Master Sergeant (USAF, retired) Mike (Marcie) Mammenga of New Baden, IL, and Lt Col (USAF) Robert (Tami) Mammenga of Bellevue, NE; sister, Janet Mammenga of Rock Rapids, IA; four grandchildren: Austin, Nick, Baylee and Brett; two step grandchildren: Tristian and Shelby; and one great-grandchild, Castiel "Cas".

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Verna; his brother, Randy; father-in-law, Ernest Schock; and brother-in-law, Ronnie Schock.
