Shirley Lorraine Flinn, 77, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away July 12, 2013, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, SD.
Arrangements are being handled by Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen. Friends may sign her online guestbook at www.schriversmemorial.com.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at the mortuary with a Liturgical Wake Service being held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues for one hour prior to Mass at the church on Thursday.
Shirley Lorraine Flinn was born on February 24, 1936, in Fort Yates, ND to Milo and Maudie (Comeau) Maxon. She lived on a ranch near McLaughlin, SD until graduation in 1956. After high school, she moved to Washington DC and worked for the Bureau of Passports.
While in Washington DC, she met and later married David R Flinn on August 31, 1957, in Arlington VA. While Dave was stationed in the United States Navy, the couple resided in Florida, California, and Rhode Island. They retired in 1974 and moved back to Aberdeen. Shirley was a housewife and mother to four children: James, Jeffery, Julie, and Jason.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, reading and gardening. She was active with Daughters of the Nile, the Red Hat Club, Yelduz Shrine and was the Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Shrine Hospital of Minneapolis.
She is survived by her husband, David Flinn of Aberdeen; three sons, James Flinn of Eureka, CA, Jeffery (Lori) Flinn of Watertown, SD and Jason (Melony) Flinn of Fredrick, SD; one daughter, Julie (Doug) Seim of Watertown, SD; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Les (Barbara) Maxon of Cresent City, CA,; and two sisters, Romona (Bert) Wolfe of Kent, WA and Joan (Willy) Holzer of Gillette, WY.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Milo Maxon Jr.
