Shawn C. Ortiz, 44, of Aberdeen, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
A celebration of his life will be held at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015, at the Salvation Army Community Center, 1003 6th Avenue SW, Aberdeen.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen is handling arrangements.
No visitation will take place before the service.
Shawn Christopher Ortiz was born on October 27, 1970 to David and Violet (Garcia) Silva in Honolulu, Hawaii on the island of Oahu.
Shawn was a true nature lover. Whether it was surfboarding, football, or walking the foot trails for his health, he loved any time spent outdoors. In recent years, feeding the ducks and geese, both in Sioux Falls and in Aberdeen, brought much enjoyment to Shawn. Music was also one of his passions.
Shawn will be remembered for being nice, considerate, kind-hearted, and loving. He will be greatly missed by his long-time girlfriend and brother.
Shawn's parents; half-sisters: Rose Mary and Valeria; and half-brother, Micheal, preceded him in death.
Shawn's only living sibling, David Wayne Ortiz of Aberdeen, as well as his best friend and girlfriend of eight years, Dawn D. DeMarrias of Aberdeen, survive Shawn.
