Ruth Ann (Kellen) Butts Bierne, 71, of Aberdeen, was called home to the Lord on Friday, January 24, 2014.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father J. Joseph Holzhauser, Celebrant. It was Ruth's wishes to be cremated with burial taking place at St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is handling arrangements.
Visitation, at the mortuary, will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, with a Liturgical Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.
Ruth's family prefers memorials to the Roncalli School System.
Ruth Ann Kellen, the youngest of 12 children, was born to Raymond and Alvina (Muehl) Kellen on February 26, 1942, in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Cathedral High School with the Class of 1960.
Ruth married Jack Butts in 1962 in Sioux Falls. To this union three children were born, Mike, Matt, and Cathy. The couple shared 17 years of marriage before Jack passed away in 1979.
Ruth was united in marriage to Bill Bierne in 1980. They combined families and together raised six children including Tom, Pat, and Jon Bierne. The family made their home in Aberdeen, where Ruth worked at Presentation Convent and Shopko for many years.
Ruth enjoyed reading, cooking, entertaining, and spending time tending to her vegetable and flower gardens and plants. Her greatest love, however, was her family and friends. Her door was always open to any one who needed her.
Blessed to have shared Ruth's life is her husband, Bill Bierne of Aberdeen; her children: Mike (JoAnn) Butts of Watertown, SD, Cathy (Tony) Hilzendeger of Maricopa, AZ, Tom (Michelle) Bierne of Sioux Falls, SD, Pat (Carla) Bierne of Aberdeen and Jon (Scarlett) Bierne of Pierre, SD; nine grandchildren: Kellen and Levi Butts, Erika Hansen, Michael Bierne, Justin and Chrisandra Bierne, and Savanna, Andy and Sara Bierne; two great-grandchildren: McKayla and McKenzie Hansen; and five sisters.
Ruth's first husband, Jack; one son, Matt; her parents; five sisters; and one brother preceded her in death.
