Roy Adam Jundt was born May 26, 1936 to John and Stephina (Voeller) Jundt in Rugby, ND. He graduated from Berwick (ND) High School in 1954. He enrolled at Minot State College and earned a one-year teaching certificate in 1955. He taught in a one-room schoolhouse for one year and then returned to college and earned a standard teaching certificate in 1957. He graduated from UND Ellendale in 1968 with a Bachelors degree in education. Roy taught in North Dakota from 1955-1965.

Roy married Joan Peters on August 20, 1960 in Rugby, ND. After their marriage they lived in New Town and Linton, ND. In 1962 Roy and Joan moved temporarily to Fort Riley, KS where Roy served in the U.S. Army as a rifle Sharpshooter for three years. They moved to McLaughlin, SD, in 1965 where Roy taught until 1996. After a move to Aberdeen in 1996, Roy worked as a substitute teacher for the Aberdeen Public Schools and the Aberdeen Roncalli school system.

Roy has been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1978. He served on the City Council while residing in McLaughlin. Roy also served as Eucharistic minister and lector at his church in McLaughlin. His faith guided his life and he was a beautiful and gentle soul. As a schoolteacher in SD with four children to feed and clothe, he worked throughout the summer at whatever job he could to provide for his family; never expecting anything for himself. His work ethic, fastidiousness, and willingness to help his friends and family leave a wonderful legacy for his children and grandchildren. With his final hours approaching, he expressed deep gratitude for 54 years with his wife and described his four imperfect children as the most wonderful children in the world. He was the perfect grandfather and his children believe his back issues later in life were due to all the piggyback rides he gave. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren.

Roy enjoyed fishing and working in his yard and garden. He also loved watching his favorite sports teams, the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings.

Roy is survived by his wife, Joan, of Aberdeen; children: Brian (Abby) Jundt of Mount Horeb, WI, Deb Dix of Aberdeen, Jeanie Jundt of Madison, WI, and Bruce (Julie) Jundt of Owatonna, MN; brothers: Pete Jundt of Minot, ND, Leo Jundt of Minot, ND, Joe Jundt of Minot, ND, Nick Jundt of Seattle, WA; sisters: Sister Mary Louise Jundt of Hankinson, ND, Carol Jundt of Minot, ND; grandchildren: Erin (Dix) Neville, Ryan Dix, Alexandra Jundt, Chandler Jundt, Bailey Dix, and Sydney Jundt; great granddaughter: Emma Neville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Jundt; sister, Mary (Jundt) Burkhard; and son-in-law, Don Dix.
