Mass of Christian Burial for Ronald J. "Ron" Mastel, 67, of Aberdeen, will be 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, with Father Melvin Kuhn, Celebrant.

Ron's wishes were to be cremated with burial and military rites, conducted by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen, taking place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may sign his online guestbook at www.schriversmemorial.com.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at the mortuary, followed by a Liturgical Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.

Ron passed away Friday, January 16, 2015, at his home. Blessed be his memory.

Ronald J. Mastel was born on September 2, 1947, to Jacob and Josephine (Schmitt) Mastel in Ipswich, SD. This is the area where he was raised, attended school, and graduated from high school.

Ron entered the United States Army in 1967 and served his country until 1969, when he received his Honorable Discharge. He then returned to Aberdeen and began working for Spaulding Auto, where he remained employed for several years.

Ron was united in marriage to Frances "Fran" Baer at Ipswich, SD, on October 25, 1969. Their union was blessed with two daughters: Rhonda and Sarah. The family made Aberdeen their home, where Ron began a long career with Brick Propane. He retired in 2009 and continued to make Aberdeen his home until the time of his death.

Ron was a member of Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Aberdeen. He was an avid trap shooter and hunter and especially enjoyed cooking and smoking wild game for his family and friends.

Blessed to have shared Ron's life is his wife of 45 years, Fran Mastel of Aberdeen; his daughters: Rhonda (Jon) Ellerbusch of Little Falls, MN and Sarah (Joel) Bobby of Lyle, MN; five grandchildren: Abigail Ellerbusch, Annabelle Ellerbusch, Zachary Ellerbusch, Grace Bobby and Sophia Bobby; one sister, Mary Lou Weber of Magnolia, DE; two sisters-in-law: Darlene Mastel of Canton, SD, and Kay Mastel of Lincoln, NE, and many nieces and nephews. Also special to Ron are Fran's sisters: Loretta (Le Roy) Neuhardt, Mary Gruenstein and Marcie (Greg) Welch, all of Aberdeen, and Roberta (Dave Andersen) Clemens of Apple Valley, MN.

Ron's parents, three brothers: Peter, Anthony, and Leo, and one sister, Josephine Bauer, preceded him in death.
