Roger Allan Huettl

Roger Huettl, 78, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 3, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father Mitchell McLaughlin officiating.

Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery following the mass.

A time for fellowship and luncheon will be held at the parish hall following the interment.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., on Wednesday, April 2, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary with a liturgical wake to begin at 7 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.schriversmemorial.com. Services will be recorded and posted on Schriver’s website following the service.

Roger Allan Huettl was born on May 17, 1946, in Aberdeen, SD, to Raymond and Gloria (Geier) Huettl. He was raised in Westport, SD, and graduated from Barnard High School in South Dakota. After graduation, Roger started working at Hub City, where he worked until his retirement in 2007.

Roger was united in marriage to Ann Marie Grote on August 21, 1965, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen, SD. The couple was blessed with four daughters: Kristi, Deannea, Laura, and Jeannie. They lived in Westport, SD, for a short time before moving to Aberdeen, SD.

Roger dedicated 12 years to serving on the Brown County Fair Board and continued volunteering at the fair for as long as he was able. In recognition of his commitment, he was inducted into the Brown County Fair Hall of Fame on March 29, 2025. Roger found great joy in farming, fishing, gardening, camping, and spending time outdoors. Above all, he cherished moments with his family, especially his grandchildren. A devoted fan, he never missed the chance to cheer on the Minnesota Vikings.

Roger was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

Grateful for sharing Roger’s life are his wife, Ann Huettl of almost 60 years; daughters: Kristi (David) Sawatzky, Deannea Huettl Buckman, Laura (Jerry) Brown, and Jeannie Huettl; one grandson, Lane Brown; two granddaughters: Samantha Buckman and Shiloh Buckman; brothers: Richard Huettl and Gary (Linda) Huettl; two sisters: Linda (Nick) Yochim and Susan (Rick) Perleberg; and several Nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Gloria; grandson, Christian Buckman; brothers, Robert and Ronald Huettl; Ann's Parents, Ed and Marie Grote; sister-in-law, Marty Huettl; brothers-in-law Rich Lentz and Roger Haag; nephew, Georgie Yochim; and niece Tracy Huettl.
