Mass of Christian Burial for Rita Lucille Zulk, 75, of Leola, SD, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 25, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father J. Joseph Holzhauser, Celebrant.
Burial will take place at approximately 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Cemetery in Leola, SD.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2014, at the mortuary with a Liturgical Wake Service being held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at church on Saturday.
Rita passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen.
Rita Lucille Kline was born on December 21, 1938, in Leola, SD, to Walter and Elizabeth K. (Stephan) Kline. She was raised in the Leola area, where she attended country school.
Rita was united in marriage to Elmer Zulk on May 14, 1962, in Leola. The couple made their first home in Canova, SD. In 1966, Rita and Elmer moved back to Leola, where they owned and operated Zulk Hotel for many years. In addition to managing the hotel, Rita also operated a daycare in her home for over 30 years and worked at Peavey Lumber Company for a short time. Rita became a resident of ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen in September of this year and continued to reside there until the time of her death.
Family was very important to Rita and she always enjoyed attending her children's and grandchildren's school activities and sporting events. She also loved hosting gatherings at her home for all occasions and will be remembered for her famous waffle iron cookies. Rita was an avid fan of Smitty's Baseball and The Minnesota Twins.
Blessed to have shared her life is her husband, Elmer Zulk of Leola; her children: Suzanne (Mike) Beilke of Buffalo, MN, Sandra (Brad) Andera of Aberdeen, SD, Janet (Clark) Reider of Crooks, SD, John (Susan) Zulk of Spencer, IA and Jeffrey (Jaci) Zulk of Owatonna, MN; 13 grandchildren: Samantha (Tyler) Burington and Brooks Beilke, Jill, Jennifer, Zachary and Anthony Andera, Mallary, Hannah and Charlie Zulk, Joshua and Jordyn Reider, and Jacob and Madison Zulk; two brothers: Leo Kline and Leonard (Caroline) Kline, both of Aberdeen, SD; and two sisters: Loretta Dylla of Webster, SD and Juliann (Wilbur) Haiar of Marion, SD.
Rita's parents and twin granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Sydney Reider, preceded her in death.
