Mass of Christian burial for Richard “Rich” Kezar, 69, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 21, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Ave SE, Aberdeen, with Father David Janes as Celebrant.

Burial, with military honors conducted by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen, will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen, is handling arrangements.  Friends may sign Rich’s online guestbook and also view his service via the live stream service link at www.schriversmemorial.com.

Visitation will be 3-5 p.m., Sunday, at the mortuary, followed by a liturgical wake service and Knights of Columbus rosary at 5:00 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour before Mass at church on Monday.

Rich passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN, following a brief illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Boy Scouts of America or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Richard Leon Kezar was born on October 15, 1947, to Dale and Virginia (Dunton) Kezar in Aberdeen, SD.  Rich attended grade school at Sacred Heart School before graduating from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 1965.  In November of 1966, Rich enlisted in the United States Army and served his country until the time of his honorable discharge in November of 1970.  Upon returning to Aberdeen, Rich furthered his education at Northern State College and received his Bachelor’s degree in 1975 before earning his Engineering degree.

Rich was united in marriage to Linda Armstrong at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen on June 15, 1974.  Their union was blessed with two sons and a daughter.  The family made Aberdeen their home, where Rich was employed with A & M Radio for a short time before beginning what would become a 33-year career as an Engineer with 3M.  Rich retired in 2009 and continued to make Aberdeen his home until the time of his death.

Rich’s faith was very important to him and he remained an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church throughout his lifetime.  He was also very involved in many civic and community groups, including most recently, Boy Scouts of America, American Legion Post #24, VFW Post #17, Brown County Emergency Management, Aberdeen Zoning and Planning Board and HAM Radio.

Blessed to have shared Rich’s life is his wife of 42 years, Linda Kezar of Aberdeen; three children:  David Kezar of Sturgis, SD, Dawn (Travis) Lemer of Aberdeen, and James (Ericka) Kezar of Perry, IA; four grandchildren:  Hunter and Parker Lemer and Noah and Nicholas Kezar; one brother, Mike (Sherry) Kezar of Alcester, SD; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rich is preceded in death by his parents.
