Richard William Lanz was born June 5, 1960, in Ellendale, ND, to Otto and Charlene (Thompson) Lanz in Ellendale, ND. Richard was raised on the family farm and attended school in Ellendale.

Following high school, Richard entered the United States Army. He received an honorable discharge, returned home, and began working for Lanz Custom Harvesting.  On March 30, 1985, he married Darlys Haselhorst in Mansfield, SD. Richard returned to the army for four more years, serving at the Fort Polk Army Base in Louisiana. The couple was blessed with two children: Leslie and Larissa.  Richard and his family later returned to Aberdeen, where he continued working for Hub City INC, where he was employed for 35 years.

Richard enjoyed the outdoors and camping. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, loved animals and had dogs throughout his entire life. His greatest joys in life were his children and grandchildren, whom he loved to spend time with.

Grateful for having shared Richard’s life are his wife of 39 years, Darlys; his children, Leslie (Jon) Dieck and Larissa (Warren) Dillon; his grandkids, Melody and Edmond Dillon; his sisters Cyndy (Stan) Hokana and Cara Tangen; and his brother Laverne (Brenda) Lanz.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Carl.

Richard’s family requests casual dress, preferably blue jeans, as Richard always loved to wear blue jeans.
