Richard Bruce Halder was born on September 15, 1936, in LaMoure, ND, the son of Martin and Agnes (Wollerman) Halder. He graduated from LaMoure High School in 1955 and then attended Wahpeton State School of Science, where he majored in Printing. In addition to being a college student, Dick also worked weekends at The LaMoure Chronicle.
He then moved to Spencer, NE and became employed with The Spencer Advocate, where he worked from 1957-1958. It was there that he met, and later married, Lanna Hartsock, of Spencer, in 1958. The couple, whose union was blessed with two children, Jacquelyn and Thomas relocated to Ellendale, ND where Dick worked at The Dickey County Leader for 30 years before moving to Aberdeen, SD in 1989. Dick spent twenty years working for Western Printing in Aberdeen before retiring at the age of 72. The word "retirement" didn't mean slowing down for Dick. He was constantly busy and filled every minute of every day with activities including walks and biking, among many other things.
Dick collected old tools as a hobby and attended many Tool Collector shows throughout the years. He was also an avid racing fan and seldom missed a Friday night race.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marilyn Quinlan of Berlin, ND.
He is survived by his wife and children, all of Aberdeen; one sister, Bonnie (Jerry) Haseleu of Litchville, ND; many brothers and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick will always be remembered for his warm personality and consideration for others. He was liked by all who knew him.
