Raymond R. “Ray” Liedle, 94, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 8, 2017, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 624 North Jay St, Aberdeen, with Pastor Tyler Poppen officiating.

Burial, with military rites, follows at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be 3-5 p.m., Sunday, at the mortuary and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Memorials are preferred by the family.

Raymond Rueben Liedle was born December 2, 1922, to David and Elizabeth (Ladner) Liedle on the family farm near Hosmer, SD.  At a young age, Ray and his family moved to Mobridge, SD, where he was raised and attended school.

Ray entered the United States Army on June 8, 1944, and served his country during WWII.  He was wounded in battle and was awarded the Military Order of the Purple Heart.  Ray was also received the World War II Victory Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star and the APTC Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star before being honorably discharged on November 8, 1945.

Raymond was united in marriage to Viola Diede on June 13, 1948, in Leola, SD.  To their union, four children were born:  Russell, Ronald, Sandra and Phyllis.  The family made Aberdeen their home where Ray began what would become a 35-year career at Safeguard before retiring on April 1, 1986.  Ray and Viola shared 62 years of marriage before she passed away on November 6, 2010.  Ray continued to reside in Aberdeen until the time of his death.

Ray was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24, both in Aberdeen.  In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving Ray are his children, Ronald Liedle of Aberdeen and Sandra Didier of Rapid City, SD; two grandchildren; one sister, Lila Fagan of Rohnert Park, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

Ray is preceded in death by his wife, Viola; son, Russell; infant daughter, Phyllis; one brother, Calvin; and one sister, Lorraine Schaible.
