Yun Ping (Peter) Wang was born in Wuzhi, Henan Province in China in 1919. He joined his beloved wife in their eternal rest on October 31, 2021. A Memorial Mass of Resurrection was celebrated on February 5, 2022, at 11 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen, SD, with Father Andrew Dickinson as the celebrant. He was employed by the government of Henan both before and after the Second World War. He later went to Taiwan and started working in the Human Resources department of the Water Resources Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, whose main tasks have included building dams and reservoirs to meet the critical needs of people in Taiwan since 1949. Having met the love of his life, Shih Jung Feng (Kay) in 1967, Yun Ping was determined to win her heart. His persistence paid off and the couple settled down in Taipei. Soon Chuan Chih and Chuan Lan were born to join their parents in their happy home. He continued to work in the Water Resources Administration until his retirement in 1987.
By Divine Providence, Peter received all the Sacraments of Christian Initiation on September 21, 2004. Father Louis Chia chose Peter the Apostle for his baptismal name. Peter, Father Chia, and his godfather were all in their 80’s at the time of Peter’s baptism. Peter had a special affection and filial love for Our Lady as his mother. He loved traveling and went for pilgrimages all over the world. He was considered ‘the wise man’ by his office friends, who consulted him numerous times on countless occasions even after he retired. In addition to traveling, he enjoyed shopping for his family, cooking, long-distance walking, doing house chores, reading, watching Chinese Opera, and walking his dogs. Many of Kay’s friends marveled at her blessings as most Chinese husbands shy away from house chores. Peter is remembered as a dedicated friend and was always the first to offer help without being asked. He lived a disciplined life and was incredibly frugal in his own needs, but Peter was very generous to his family. He sacrificed to give his daughters the best education available and often bought dresses to surprise Kay. Peter volunteered faithfully in the nursing home of the Little Sisters of the Poor for over 20 years. The secrets of his longevity seem to be: daily prayers, chocolates, walking, and reading.
Peter is survived by his two daughters, Chuan Chih (Chiara) and Chuan Lan, and two sons-in-law Don Lipp and Shih Yang Wu.
