Peter Fred Feickert

Peter Fred Feickert, 63, of Aberdeen, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 19, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Griffin, Celebrant.

Pete was convinced the scientific community had a lot they could learn from his body and had requested that his body be donated to science.  Unfortunately, due to his untimely passing, his requested wasn’t able to be fulfilled.  Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, in Aberdeen, at a later date.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., February 18, 2021, at the mortuary, with a liturgical wake service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at the church on Friday.

Casual dress is requested at his services.

Peter Fred Feickert was born August 2, 1957, in Leola, SD.  He was the fourth son born to Elvin and Christina (Geffre) Feickert and grew up on a dairy farm northwest of Leola, SD.  He attended elementary school at Hoffman Hilltop School and high school at Leola High School, graduating with the Class of 1975.  Pete spent most of his adolescence “raising Cain” with his brothers, but not so much that he couldn’t wake up to milk cows in the morning.

Pete married Tracy Marko on November 5, 1977.  They made Aberdeen their home, where Pete thoroughly enjoyed his 35-year career with Harms Oil Company.  They eventually built their dream hobby farm, so Pete could “tinker around” endlessly to his heart’s desire.  Pete was a mechanical genius and spent most of his free time working in his shop on cars, trucks, tractors, or whatever caught his attention.  His proudest car restoration projects included building a car with his son and son-in-law which he named “The Blue Bayou” (you get it, right?), a 1967 Dodge Cornet, and a 1939 Buick Coupe.  He took great joy in buying and selling Mopar parts at swap meets and especially enjoyed collecting Hemi Motors.

Pete’s happiest moments were spent hanging out drinking some “coldies”, listening to his favorite Country and 70’s Rock and Roll music, and telling stories and sharing “Peteisms” with his family and friends.  He also loved passing down traditions and knowledge to his beloved grandchildren.  Pete viewed life with the infectious excitement of a child; always dreaming and scheming about his newest idea or invention.  He was a life-long learner, an inquisitive thinker, great teacher and diligent do-er.  Pete made s#!t happen!  He will most definitely be remembered for his animated stories about his most recent adventure which he always managed to make sound like a funny scene out of a cartoon.

Blessed to have been part of Pete’s wild ride are his wife of 43 years, Tracy (Marko) Feickert; daughter, Amy (Jed) Bertsch; son, Erik (Ericka) Feickert; siblings: David (Sonia) Feickert, Dennis (Rae) Feickert, Roger (Cathy) Feickert, Phillip (Pam) Feickert, Sidney (Launa) Feickert and Joyce (Marvin Kirchler) Feickert; mother-in-law, Ione Marko; five sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; his beloved stinky, hairy, dog, “Brody” and his cats.  “Papa Pete” was also simply adored by his grandchildren, Alexa and Emmy Feickert and Margo and Jack Bertsch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Christina Feickert; and his father-in-law, Richard “Dick” Marko.
