Paul was born on August 16, 1924, in Roscoe, SD to John and Elizabeth (Biernbaum) Vetch.  Paul spent his childhood in Roscoe, where he attended school.

Paul was a proud veteran of World War II.  He felt it was a great honor to fight for his country and had a great respect for our country’s flag.

Paul was united in marriage to Katherine Malsam on May 17, 1948, in Hosmer.  God blessed this union with 14 children.  They spent most of their married life in the Hosmer area.  In 1983 they moved to Aberdeen to help care for their daughter, Judy and her family.  Paul was always willing to help his neighbors with yard work, snow removal and sharing his tools. He was known for being able to fix anything and was happy to share his knowledge.  Paul enjoyed visits with both young and old and could hold conversations for hours.   Katherine and Paul moved to the Ipswich Rehab and Care Center in June of 2017.  They shared over 69 years of marriage before she passed away on December 29, 2017.

Paul is survived by 12 children:  Janice (Ralph) Borge, Aberdeen, Joyce Mettler, Mobridge, Jeanette (Chuck) Nietert, Aberdeen, Kathleen Beck, Rapid City, James, Sioux Falls, Wilbert (Pat), Eau Claire, WI, John (Ronda), Mitchell, Paul (Diane), Warner, Mary (Jason Lien) Job, Aberdeen, Richard (Heather), Eureka, Paulette (Brad) Ulmer, Watertown, and Michelle (Alvin) Gerlach, Aberdeen; son-in-law Don Bremer, Bullhead City, AZ; 36 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great- great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by one brother, LeRoy Vetch, Alexandria, NE; three sisters: Bernice Buechler, Selby, Walburga Zambo, Selby, and Gladys (Raymond) Preszler, Aberdeen; one bother-in-law, Roger Kraft, Hoven; and one sister-in-law, Orma Vetch, Aberdeen.
