Paul Lingor, 83, died on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Bethesda Home in Aberdeen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Ave NE, Aberdeen, with Fr. J. Joseph Holzhauser officiating.
Burial, with military rites conducted by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen, will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Aberdeen.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. An online guest book is available to be singed at schriversmemorial.com.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at the mortuary with a liturgical wake service at 7 pm.
Paul Lingor was born on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1931, in Aberdeen, SD, to Adam and Josephine (Dashel) Lingor. He attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Aberdeen Central High.
He was activated in 1950 with the 196th Regimental Combat Team at the start of the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952.
Paul married Jean Meyer in 1954 in Aberdeen. He joined the Aberdeen Fire Dept. in 1952, and came up through the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, and was named Assistant Fire Chief in 1970. In 1977, he was appointed as the Fire Chief. He later resigned in 1986 and then worked for the Department of Commerce for the State of South Dakota until he retired in 1991.
Paul was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, The American Legion, the YMCA, the Senior Center, and was a lifetime member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Paul also enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels, delivering meals for many years. He liked to travel and especially enjoyed having his morning coffee at McDonald's for many years.
Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife, Jean of Aberdeen; one son, Allen (Barbara) Lingor of Mexia, TX; one daughter, Janeen (Craig) Connell of Eureka, SD; two grandchildren, Scott Lingor of New York City, NY and Cami Connell of Minneapolis, MN; two brothers, Earl Lingor of Springhill, FL and Jerome Lingor of Aberdeen, SD; and one sister, Maire Hovland of Mesa, AZ.
Paul was preceded into death by his parents; four brothers: Dan, George, Clem, and Robert; and one sister, Ruth.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to your favorite charity.
