Paul Heier

Paul Heier, 81, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Friday, July 1, 2022.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Kapperman officiating.

Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery with Military Honors.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at the mortuary with a liturgical wake at 7 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church.

Paul was born October 9, 1940, on the family farm three miles west of Hosmer to Joe J. and Frances (Hoerner) Heier. He attended rural school and went on to graduate from Hosmer High School. After graduating in 1959, Paul proudly served in the Marine Corp until 1963.

On June 3, 1966, Paul married Mary Walth at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen, SD, and made their home in Aberdeen where Paul began working at Hub City Iron.

In 1969, Paul and Mary moved to his family’s homestead where he began farming with his brother.  In 1977, they purchased a farm 2 ½ miles northeast of Hosmer where Paul was committed to making a home for his family and memories for his children. Through sacrifice and hard work, Paul built a dairy operation and farmed acres of land until mother nature had different plans.

In 1991, Paul and Mary made their way back to Aberdeen where Paul returned to working at Hub City Iron until his retirement in 2011. Still wanting to work part-time, Paul was a courtesy driver for Steven Lust Automotive until 2018.  When he wasn’t working, Paul enjoyed fixing or building just about anything.

Paul is survived by his wife Mary; children: Troy (Jayne) Heier, Ronn (Shelley) Heier, Chad (Angie) Heier, and Samantha (Travis) Kalis; sister, Maggie (Jim) Bauer; brothers; Val (Mary Jo) Heier and Peter (Sandie) Heier; and nine grandchildren: Ashle, Alec, Gavin, Victoria, Reeselyn, Colton, Jocelyn, Addison, and Grisom.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Balthasar and Henry; and his sister, Adeline.
