Mass of Christian Burial for Orval Calvin Netzer, 78, of Roy Lake, SD, and formerly of Aberdeen, will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Griffin as celebrant.
Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, followed by a liturgical wake service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at the church on Wednesday.
Orval passed away suddenly on Monday, October 19, 2015, at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, FL.
Orval Calvin Netzer was born on March 23, 1937, to Emil and Edna (Henne) Netzer on the family farm in Sydney, ND. He attended country school until the 4th grade. The family then moved to Jamestown, ND, where Orval graduated from high school in 1955.
Orval married Mary Stich on September 19, 1959, in Dorothy, MN. To their union four children were born. Orval was employed as a buyer and store manager for several farm supply stores in North Dakota and South Dakota, including Sandvigs of Aberdeen. Upon retiring in 1999, Orval and Mary moved to Roy Lake, SD, where they enjoyed spending their summers. They were "snowbirds" and especially loved travelling south for the winter months.
Orval enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, reading, gardening, watching NASCAR races and going to auctions.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Netzer of Roy Lake, SD; one daughter, Dawn (Don) Hinckley of Gettysburg, SD; three sons: Virgil (Sharon) Netzer of Aberdeen, Cory (Kristie) Netzer of Bonney Lake, WA, and Kelly Netzer of Brookings, SD; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five siblings: Clarice (Abe) Reddekopp, Clarence (Shirley) Netzer, Milton (Mary) Netzer, Alida (Ray) Posein, and Dwight (Darcy) Netzer.
Orval's parents preceded him in death.
