Norman Lee Wood

Funeral Service for Norman Lee Wood, 81, of Aberdeen, will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Father Tom Anderson presiding. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Edgeley, ND.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, and one hour before the service on Wednesday, all at the mortuary.

Norman passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at his home in Aberdeen. Blessed be his memory.

Norman Lee Wood was born on November 3, 1931 to Delaney and Elsie (Tischner) Wood in Wathena, KS. He was raised and attended school in Wathena and later in St. Joseph, MO, where he also worked for over three years at the Florist Greenhouse.

Norman was drafted into the United States Army in January of 1951 and served his country during the Korean War. He received his Honorable Discharge on January 21, 1960. Norman then moved to Monrovia, CA and married Wanda Cantor. The couple made their home in this area, where Norman was employed for Northrup Arcadia of California.

On April 18, 1971, Norman was united in marriage to Phyllis "Pat" Fischer in Reno, NV. That same year he was transferred to the Northern California Branch of Northrup Arcadia. In 1984, Norman became employed with Walters & Wolf Glass Company. He remained there until the time of his retirement in February 1994. Following his retirement, he and Pat moved to Aberdeen, where Norman worked part-time for Kessler's. He continued to make Aberdeen his home until the time of his death.

Norman loved working and especially enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was raising cattle or tending to his garden.

Surviving Norman are his wife, Phyllis "Pat" Wood of Aberdeen; one son, Russ (Kathryn) Wood of Mountain View, CA; one daughter, Debbie (Don) Vanluchem of Freemont, CA; four grandchildren, Jill Vanluchem, Daniel Vanluchem, Rachel Wood and Sarah Wood; and one great-granddaughter, Layla Vanluchem.

Norman's parents, two brothers, and eight sisters preceded him in death.
