Nicholas “Nick” Fettig was born November 17, 1981, in Aberdeen, SD to James P. and Pat J. (Mack) Fettig.  This is the area where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School with the Class of 2000.

Nick was truly a one of a kind guy ... a son, brother, dad, significant other, and friend, adored by those who knew him.  He was a country boy, through and through, and he loved hunting and animals.  He grew up with family values and a love for God and country, the first of the "Fettig Brothers," with a heart of gold.  He knew everyone and everyone knew him.  From a young age, he made social connections very easily, and many men consider themselves adopted into his brotherhood.

Nick spent his life building things with skill and accuracy and was currently employed by Huff Construction.  He was talented and adept in many ways, a "huckleberry," if you will.  One of his best projects was an ice shack he made from a trailer.

Everything was done with a song.  The guy was fun, funny, silly, and playful.  His tender heart showed for his son, nieces and nephews, animals, and grandparents.  He loved his son beyond words and had a special connection with him.

Nick is survived by his son, Jerric Cavanaugh; significant other, Heather Hart Basham, and her daughters, Kenzington and Jazmine; parents, Jim Fettig and Pat Fettig; sister, Heather; brothers, Josh and Chris (Kami Johnson); and grandparents, Harry and Myrna Linder.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gordon Mack; and grandparents, Mathias and Dorothy Fettig.

Words cannot express our loss and the devastation that we feel.  He found his way into our hearts and we adored him immensely.
