It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michelle Kimberly Jones, of Claremont, SD, who passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the age of 49.

A Celebration of Michelle’s Life will be held at Claremont Community Church in Claremont, SD, on Saturday, July 25th at 2 pm.

A reception will follow at the Claremont Firehall.

Family and friends are invited to gather to honor her memory, celebrate her life, and find comfort in one another.

Michelle was born on August 24, 1976, in Miles City, Montana. Throughout her life, she was known for her compassionate heart, unwavering kindness, and remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, understood, and loved.

Above all else, Michelle treasured the relationship she shared with her parents, Melinnee and Marvin Mastel. Their bond was one of unconditional love, friendship, and unwavering support. Her parents were one of the greatest blessings in her life, and the love they shared remained a constant source of strength and comfort throughout Michelle's life.

Michelle grew up surrounded by the love of her family. She held a special place in the hearts of her grandmothers, Christine Mastel and Linda Winkley, whose love helped shape the woman she became. She also shared a close bond with her uncle, Mark Winkley, who played an important role in her childhood and upbringing.

Michelle was a devoted wife to Douglas Schantz and a loving mother to Keith (Shelby Burcham) Robinson-Worm, Travis (Cassidy Johnson) Worm, Josie (Allen Klinger) Ogden, Joshua (Keyaira) Jones, Isaac Jones, Taylor (Julie) Schantz, and Maddie (Kyle) Sarsland. Her love extended beyond her children. She loved their spouses as her own. She found her greatest joy in being Grandma to Haylee, Noah, Kaleb, Layla, Ashton, Ezra, Travis, Eratreah, Eli, Riley, Ethan, Theodore, Amelia, Haven, Waylon, Colter, Connor, and Khaleesi.

Every one of her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren held a special place in her heart.

Michelle also shared an extraordinary friendship with Jesse Ogden. Their bond was built on love, trust, laughter, and unwavering support. Jesse was not only family but one of Michelle's closest friends, and their relationship was one she deeply cherished throughout her life.

Michelle is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Schantz; her children, their spouses, and cherished grandchildren; her parents, Melinnee Mastel and Marvin Mastel; her biological father, Bill Worm; her siblings, Ken (Erna Worm) Worm, Melody (Jason Morehouse) Morehouse, Jon Mastel, Travis Worm, Tyler (Jennah) Worm, Charissa (Christopher) Brownfield, Teauna (Joe) Swanson, and Russel (Cody) Kinzer; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and countless members of the community whose lives she touched.

Michelle dedicated herself to serving others through her role with the local fire department, a responsibility she took great pride in. She was also proud to have earned her college degree, reflecting her determination and commitment to lifelong learning.

She loved spending time outdoors, especially camping, fishing, and hunting with her family, where many of her favorite memories were made. Michelle also had a passion for photography, always capturing life's special moments so they could be treasured for years to come. She loved dancing with her family and friends, filling every gathering with laughter, music, and joy. Whether gathered around a campfire, casting a line into the water, spending time in the outdoors, taking pictures of the people she loved, or dancing with those closest to her, Michelle found happiness in creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Michelle's warmth, generosity, strength, and unconditional love touched everyone she met. She had an incredible ability to relate to people from all walks of life, offering compassion, encouragement, and friendship without judgment. Her greatest accomplishment was the love she gave to her family. Her husband, her children, their spouses, her grandchildren, and those closest to her were the center of her world, and the memories she created with them will remain a lasting legacy of love.

Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we find peace in knowing that Michelle's love, compassion, laughter, and beautiful spirit will continue to live on through her family, her friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
