Michel "Mike" Richard Miller

Mass of Christian Burial for Michel Richard Miller, 52, of Aberdeen, SD, will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Ave, NE, Aberdeen, with Father J. Joseph Holzhauser officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Aberdeen.

A Liturgical wake service will be 7 pm, Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Ave, NW, Aberdeen. Visitation at the mortuary is 5-7 pm, Tuesday, and one prior to the Mass on Wednesday at the church.

Mike passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen, SD.

Michel Richard Miller was born May 24, 1961, to Fred and Judy (Lochter) Miller in Aberdeen, SD. Mike attended Aberdeen schools and graduated from Roncalli High School in 1979. Following graduation, he attended Northern State College, where he received his degree. Mike started his career with The Athlete's Foot in Aberdeen, at the time of his death he was the owner/operator of Shoe Science at the Lakewood Mall.

Mike and Janice Thury were united in marriage June 14, 1991, in Aberdeen, SD. Mike's pride and joy was his two children, Michyl and Brenden. He loved them dearly and they meant the world to him.

Mike enjoyed fishing, scuba diving, and pontoon rides at Richmond Lake. He also enjoyed visiting with the "regular mall walkers" but most importantly, family gatherings. Mike was an advocate for education and served on the Aberdeen School Board and was recently elected to the South Dakota High School Association. He was the School Board President at the time of his death. He was a member of the Aberdeen Police Reserves, as well as the dive and rescue team. Mike also volunteered for North Plains Hospice.

Preceding Mike in death is his father, Fred Miller.

Grateful for sharing in Mike's life are his wife, Janice and his children, Michyl and Brenden; his mother, Judy Miller of Blaine, MN; his two brothers, Mark Miller of Dana Point CA and Patrick (Michelle) Miller of Aberdeen; his sister, Elizabeth (Adam) Gunder of Blaine MN; his uncles Jean and Joe Miller of Sioux Falls SD; his aunt Pat and Llyod McBurney and their son Steve of Aberdeen; his many nieces and nephews; and Mike's long-time friend and business partner, Tom (Dianne) Brenden.

In honor of Mike, we would like everyone attending his funeral Mass to dress casual and wear tennis shoes.

The family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers.
