Michael Schwan

Michael F. Schwan, 89, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Mass of Christian Burial is 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at St. Mary’s Church, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Kapperman officiating.

The Burial will follow Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is one hour before Mass at the church.

Michael F. Schwan was born on October 11, 1932, in Aberdeen, SD, to Julius and Katherine (Franzen) Schwan, where he was raised, attended Aberdeen Central High School and graduated in 1951. He also attended Northern State University for three years until he enlisted in the US Army on February 3, 1953. Michael rose to the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged on January 7, 1955.

He returned to Aberdeen and held several jobs, later he worked for Teigen and Larson Construction until he became disabled in 1963. He moved to Rapid City for a short time and later returned to Aberdeen. Michael enjoyed spending his winters in Los Angeles.

Michael was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Grateful for having shared Michael’s life is his good friend Allen Evenson.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Schwan.
