Michael A. Richey

Michael A. Richey, 55, of Aberdeen, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Ava’s House hospice care center in Sioux Falls, SD.

His wishes were to be cremated and a public Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 16, 2020, at Melgaard Park, 501 East Melgaard Road, Aberdeen, with Pastor Blair Kirkpatrick, of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, leading the service.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Michael A. Richey was born May 23, 1965, to Paul and Judy (Barron) Richey in Estherville, IA.  At a young age, Michael moved with his family to Huron, SD, where he was raised, attended school, and graduated from Huron High School.

In 2003, Michael moved to Aberdeen and began working for Beadle Floral and Nursery.  Michael was united in marriage to Kimberly Pies on September 29, 2012, in Aberdeen.  The couple made Aberdeen their home, where Michael continued working for Beadle’s and eventually became their Garden Center Manager.  Following a 15-year career with Beadle’s, Michael began working for RBL Landscaping and remained working with them until the time of his death.

Michael enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing.  He especially enjoyed working in his large vegetable garden and canning all of the produce in the fall.

Grateful for sharing Michael’s life is his wife, Kimberly Richey of Aberdeen; his children, Jeff Richey of Ft. Myers, FL and Jordin (Jon) Borg of Ellendale, ND; five stepchildren; three grandchildren:  Maddi, Shane and Audri; 13 step-grandchildren; his mother, Judy Barron of Aberdeen; and his sister, Kelly Richey of Aberdeen.

Michael was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
