Michael Gary “Mick” Forsting, 68, of Aberdeen, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at his home.
Michael Gary Forsting was born July 5, 1948. He was the first born of Agnes “Aggie” (Brossart) and Leo Forsting. He was named after his maternal grandfather. Mick grew up on the family farm near Columbia and attended his first years of school in a one-room schoolhouse. Then Mick attended and graduated from Barnard High School. He attended college in Ellendale, North Dakota and moved to Aberdeen for work.
He acquired the nickname “Skinny” and held a myriad of jobs. Skinny became a heavy equipment operator, truck driver, contracted driver (Colony, WY) and then owned a bar. His work and travels took him far and wide, but he always returned home. Although Mick never married, he held his loves close to him, and with that spoken, his great love was his family (Mom, Dad and the other 6 M’s - Mary, Mark, Morris, Madonna, Monty and Maria).
Skinny’s interest extended to muscle cars and was an active biker rarely missing a Sturgis Rally. Then came the ‘van’ days to family cars and ultimately to a wheel chair/walker. He always carved out time to travel with family and friends to visit family and friends across the country to garner outings of fun and memories.
Mick was and always will be our brother and we tip our hats to you knowing that your journey here was powerful and unforgettable. May this leg of your journey be a good and gracious one and know that you are greatly loved and held close to our hearts. Godspeed. Mom and Dad; open the gates; your son is home.
Survivors include three sisters: Mary M. (Eugene) Thorpe of Hecla SD, Madonna M. Sahli of Aberdeen and Maria F. (Paul) Anderson of Aberdeen; and three brothers: Mark R. (Sugrida) Forsting of Tampa, FL, Morris V. (Gloria) Forsting of Sioux Falls, SD and Monty J. (Jo) Forsting of Aberdeen.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father Mark Axtmann as Celebrant.
No visitation will take place prior to the Mass, however, a rosary, led by Father Axtmann, will be said at 9:30 a.m. at the church on Saturday.
Mick’s wishes were to be cremated with burial taking place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
A luncheon and time of fellowship and sharing memories will immediately follow the interment, at St. Mary’s fellowship hall.
