Michael "Mike" Mark Treftz was born on August 13, 1966, to Albert and Ida (Nitschke) Treftz in Ipswich, SD. He grew up on the family farm southwest of Leola, where he also attended grade school and high school.
Even in his debilitating health the last few years, Mike found creative ways to continue his passions in life: gardening, fishing, and deer hunting and passing on these skills to his sons he dearly loved, Landon and Lukas.
Mike will always be remembered for his talents in the kitchen whipping up homemade soups, canning his vegetables, stuffing his homemade sausage, or baking his delicious cookies, all of which gave him great joy passing on to his family, friends, and neighbors. He loved watching old Westerns, collecting deer antlers and was always quick to make one laugh. Always at his side was his faithful black lab companion, "Wally".
Mike is survived by his sons: Landon Treftz, of Rapid City, SD and Lukas Treftz, of Yankton, SD; his daughter, Debra (Randy Jr.) Bruckner, of Libby, MT; one brother, Glenn Treftz of Wetonka, SD; three sisters: Brenda (Michael) Thompson of Amarillo, TX, Cheryl (Bruce) Martin of Mina, SD and Sandi (John) Hall of Amarillo, TX; three grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Albert; his mother, Ida; his sister, Bonnie, (who passed away from the same lung disease); and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
