Michael was born on June 1, 1930, and went to be with our Lord and those he loved dearly who went before him on June 1, 2014.
Michael was born to Michael M. Johs, Sr. and Katherine (Zahn) Johs in Hague, ND. He was the thirteenth child of fifteen children.
On June 14, 1950, Michael married the love of his life, Irene Dosch, at Strasburg, ND. They were married for 64 years and had six children. They lived on the family farm in Hague until 1966, and then moved to Aberdeen, where Michael then went to work at St. Mary's Church and School and St. Mary's Cemetery for 30 years.
Where does one begin to try to describe the type of man Michael was? He was a hard-working, dedicated, loving, and humble man. He was kind and generous and instilled in his family all of these values. He was always helping and doing things for others. Michael was a perfectionist and believed that if you were going to do something, do it right the first time. He was a self-taught carpenter, plumber, and electrician who loved to build and fix things. Michael took great pride in his home, yard, and his beloved garden. Those of us who learned from him have all become better people because of him. He will be missed so very much, but we know he is now Home with his loved ones and is pain free.
Grateful for having shared his life and love are his wife, Irene; his son, Don; his four daughters: Sharon, Jane (Bernie) Evelo, Joan (Dave) Lee, and Joyce; his grandchildren: Stacy (John) Atnip, Shannon (Loren) Arnesen, Destry (Gen) Schumacher, Jeremy Heier, Michael (Amanda) Lee, Alex Lee, Jordan Lee, Nicole (Rick) Otte, and Samantha Johs; his great-grandchildren: Asher (Alli) Heidrich, Kamryn and Blake Arnesen, Johnny and Max Atnip, Addison Otte, and Peyton Schumacher; his great great-grandchild, Atticus Heidrich; one brother, Ben (Christine) Johs; and two sisters, Lena Wagner and Anna (Francis) Nolz.
