Mass of Christian Burial for Merle F. Serfoss, 79, of Aberdeen, will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, with Father Melvin Kuhn, Celebrant.
Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to Mass on Wednesday at the church.
Merle passed away Friday, March 20, 2015, at Aberdeen Health & Rehab. Blessed be his memory.
Merle F. Serfoss was born on July 5, 1935, to Albert and Esther (Ukert) Serfoss in Leola, SD. This is the area where he was raised and attended school.
Merle entered the United States Air Force in October of 1954 and served his country until August of 1959, when he was honorably discharged.
Merle was united in marriage to Arlene Ann Kirchgasler on February 28, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen. The couple made their home in Minneapolis, MN, where he was employed as a machinist with Hiawatha Metal Works. In 1990, Merle and Arlene moved to Aberdeen. They shared over 53 years of marriage before Arlene passed away on September 7, 2013. Merle continued to make Aberdeen his home until the time of his death.
Merle was a true animal lover. He enjoyed raising geese and also loved caring for injured animals of all types including ducks, cats, fox, and a goat.
Grateful to have shared Merle's life is his sister, Dorothy Schlosser of Aberdeen; his brother, Melvin (Peggy) Serfoss of Aberdeen; and many nieces and nephews.
Merle is preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; his parents, Albert and Esther; one brother, Frank; and three sisters: Phyllis, Mildred, and Shirley.
