Melvin Rauscher, 74, of Aberdeen, formerly of Selby, SD, passed away Monday, January 12, 2015, at Aberdeen Health & Rehab.

Melvin's wishes were to be cremated. His memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Pastor Kevin Bergeson, of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, presiding. A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the service at Schriver's Memorial Fellowship Center.

Burial will take place at the Ipswich City Cemetery at a later date.

Melvin Rauscher was born August 9, 1940, to Gerhardt and Helen (Iszler) Rauscher in Elgin, ND. This is the area where he was raised and attended school.

On May 3, 1958, Melvin enlisted in the United States Army and served his country until May 2, 1961, when he was honorably discharged.

Melvin was united in marriage to Marjorie Bader on January 28, 1961 in ND. The couple made their home in Carson, ND. They also lived in New Leipzig, ND, for a short time before moving to Selby, SD, in 1974. While living in Selby, Melvin worked as a farmhand until he became disabled in 1981. He and Marjorie shared 49 years of marriage and raised three children together before she passed away in January of 2010. In 2011, Melvin moved to Aberdeen, where he continued to reside until the time of his death.

Melvin enjoyed fishing, woodworking and gardening. He especially loved spending time with his family. He will always be remembered for his famous German sausage.

Grateful for having shared in Melvin's life are his children: Murray (Lisa) Rauscher of Watertown, SD, Michelle (Joel) Ford of Aberdeen, and Mindy (Mike) Wietgrefe of Mina, SD; six grandchildren: Trevor Rauscher, Braden Rauscher, Amanda Lindgren, Jenna Chandler, Taylor Chandler and Mason Wietgrefe; one great-grandchild, Phoenix Lindgren; five brothers: Duane (Judi) Rauscher of Sioux Falls, SD, Paul (Dee Dee) Rauscher of Milton, NC, Fred (Linda) Rauscher of Aberdeen, Vernon (Karen) Rauscher of Mounds View, MN and Herman Rauscher of Colstrip, MT; two sisters: Bernice Herreid of Milbank, SD and Cheryl (Roy) Chamberlain of Wyoming; and one sister-in-law, Dianna Rauscher of Wetonka, SD.

Melvin's parents, wife, and one brother, Norman, preceded him in death.
