Mary L. Hoerner

Mary L. Hoerner, 72, of Frederick, SD, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at her home in Frederick.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 25, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Westport, SD, with Father Tom Anderson as celebrant.

Burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Aberdeen, SD.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, at the mortuary, with a liturgical wake service being held at 7 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before Mass at church on Monday.

Mary Lyn Lucy Hoerner was born on December 16, 1943 to Baldaser and Grace (Blossey) Grismer in Aberdeen, SD. She attended country school and was raised on the Grismer homestead in Hosmer, SD.

She married Floyd P. Hoerner on February 19, 1966 in Bowdle, SD. She enjoyed farming side by side with her husband and raising their five children. The family moved to Frederick in 1978 where she was completely devoted to her husband, her children and her faith.

Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Westport, SD. She was also a member of the Historical Society and active with the Senior Citizen Center in Frederick where she enjoyed spending time with her friends and participating in community events.

Mary loved to garden and could be found canning all the produce that she and Floyd harvested every fall. She loved baking and was an amazing cook. Her family will cherish the recipes from her German heritage. Mary was an incredibly loving, kind, giving and gentle wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. She loved caring for her grandchildren and would often treat them with her amazing cooking. She made a point to always tell them how proud she was of them and how much she loved them. Some of Mary's favorite activities and fondest memories were time spent in Spokane, WA as a young lady, annual trips to South Carolina, and the annual Hoerner family summer gatherings with her children and grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Baldaser and Grace, and twin sister, Mary Ann.

Mary is survived by her husband, Floyd Hoerner of Frederick, SD; her children: Mark (Sandy) Hoerner of Frederick, JoAnn (Mike) Oster of Rapid City, Bernice (John) Schallenkamp of Bridgewater, Louise (Rob) Brooks of Dakota Dunes, and GeorgieAnn Hoerner (Jesse Ulrickson) of Mount Pleasant, SC; her siblings: Bernard Grismer, Ben (Inez) Grismer, Theresa Beitelspacher, William (Mary Jo) Grismer, Walter (Mary) Grismer, Rosemary (Gary) Sandmeier, Christine (Don) Martel, and Bernadette (Richard) Holzer; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
