Mary E. (Wolf) Burgard was born on October 26, 1923, to Lawrence and Elizabeth (Gabriel) Wolf at Hillsview, SD. Mary attended Hillsview School through 8th grade, to help take care of brothers and sisters because of her Mom's illness.

Mary married Robert Simon on June 6, 1946. Robert passed away on June 5, 1949. Mary then was united in marriage to John Burgard on July 2, 1952, in Aberdeen. He passed away on January 5, 2007. Mary took joy in raising her five children, separated by four years in age. After the family was raised, she worked at Mother Joseph Manor and then Aberdeen Public Schools as a cook until retirement. Following retirement, she occupied her time with making angel food cakes for every grandchild's birthday, entertaining friends and family with coffee and cookies, and who can forget the crocheted dish cloths she gave to every person that walked into her house. Mary enjoyed her last years at Avera Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community, where they gave her comfort and ultimate care; a true feeling of home.

Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Anne's Society and the St. Hilary Circle. She loved cooking, baking, cleaning, playing cards, camping and fishing, knitting, ceramics, and going to dances with John.

Grateful to have shared Mary's life are her children: Kenny (Carolyn) Simon of Aberdeen, Linda Marie (Ronnie) Burgard-Kaup of Hoven, SD, and Conald (Judy) Burgard of Aberdeen; 24 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; and siblings: Pete Wolf of Friday Harbor, WA, Jacob (Avis) Wolf of Aloha, OR, Marcella Gisi of Pitcairn, PA, and Sister Caroline Wolf of Mother of God Priory in Watertown, SD.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two daughters: Diane (Burgard) Crouse and Linda Ann (Simon) Salfrank; one son-in-law, Arlyn Salfrank; two brothers-in-law: Ludwig Gisi and Jim Burgard; and two sisters-in-law: Delores Wolf and Caroline Burgard.

Pallbearers will be all of Mary's grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the St. Hilary Circle.
