Mary "Mae" Agnes (Thornton) Sauer

Mary “Mae” Agnes Sauer, 90, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at her daughter’s home surrounded by Deb, Chuck, Claudia, Niki, Bailey, Taylor, Ben, Paisley, Chad, Sandy, and daughter Mazie.

Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary, Aberdeen, with Pastor Craig Bostian officiating.

Visitation is one hour before the service at the funeral home.

A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow the service at Schriver’s Memorial Fellowship Center.

Mary’s wishes were to be cremated and burial of her cremated remains will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Aberdeen.

Mary Agnes Thornton was born August 24, 1930 to Kyle and Elizabeth (Johnson) Thornton in Waubay, SD where she was raised and attended country school.  She was married to Albert Sauer on July 15, 1947 in Aberdeen.  Together they raised eight children.

Mary enjoyed doing word search, board games and putting jigsaw puzzles together. She also liked embroidering and crocheting, baking and cooking, and also playing cards.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Diane (Ron) Fischer of Groton, SD, Chuck Sauer of Aberdeen, Debra Sauer of Aberdeen, Albert Jr. (Annette) Sauer of Eden, OK, Michael (Mindy) Sauer of Lubbock, TX, and Shelly (Don) Jones of Bath, SD; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons, Steven and Ronald; brothers, Kyle, Richard, and Wayne; sisters, Jean and Helen; and her grandson, Shawn Jones.
