Marty Newman, 60, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026. He passed away peacefully at home, held in the love of family, after his fight with pancreatic cancer.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Schriver's Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Jay Rossman officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Schriver's Memorial Chapel. Visitation continues one hour before the service.

Marty was born on March 11, 1965, in Redfield, SD, to Mitlon and Devonna (Harms) Newman. He graduated from Cresbard High School. He earned a degree in Ag Business from Lake Area Technical College.

After he returned to Cresbard, SD, he married Karla Rueter. They were married for 38 years. Together, they had a son, David. Marty returned to school at Mitchell Technical College to obtain a degree in Power Line Construction and Maintenance. After graduating, Marty and his family moved to Aberdeen, SD. Shortly after moving to Aberdeen, they would welcome their daughter, Kaitlyn, to the family. Marty would work the entirety of his 33-year career as a lineman at Northern Electric Cooperative. He took great pride in his work and in keeping the lights on. He retired in 2025, a decision that reflected his deep love and devotion to his wife.

Of all his accomplishments, he considered his children his greatest pride. Nothing made him smile more than time spent with his grandson, the light of his world. Marty was a man of few words, a hard worker by nature, a mentor to many, and always there to help. He could fix anything. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to share his passions with others. His final advice was simple: keep fishing.

Marty is survived by his loving wife, Karla; his son, David (Shannon) Newman; his grandson, Martin Newman; his daughter, Kaitlyn Newman; his parents, Milton and Devonna Newman; his brothers, Marlin (Marilyn) and Mark (Sharon) Newman; and sisters, Darcy and Danene Newman.

Marty is preceded in death by his grandparents, Thelma and Martin Harms, and Gladys and David Newman; his mother-in-law, Gertrude Rueter; his father-in-law, Carl Rueter; and his nephew, Rylan Newman.
