Martha B. Hill

Martha B. Hill, 97, of Aberdeen, SD passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 at her home in Aberdeen.

Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 17, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Aberdeen, with Fr. Jeffrey Schulte officiating.

Visitation is 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, at the mortuary with a liturgical wake and rosary at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation continues one hour before Mass at the church.

Burial is at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Martha B. Mock was born June 26, 1924 to Walter and Magdelena (Wolf) Mock in Aberdeen.  She attended St. Mary’s Parochial Schools and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1942.  Martha married Gust I. Hill on June 10, 1946 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen.  They made their home in Aberdeen and raised five children: Kathryn, Mary, Patty, Margaret, and Jim.  Martha was employed with Woolworth Stores and K-mart before she retired.  Gust passed away in 1996.

Martha enjoyed being a volunteer foster grandparent.  She was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Martha was a member of St. Anns and the Catholic Aid Association.  She enjoyed bowling, word puzzles, and going to rummage sales.

Grateful for having shared Martha’s life are her children: Kathryn Prouse of Aberdeen, Mary Hill of Aberdeen, Patty (Mike) Walters of Ottawa, KS, Margaret Hixon of Strandburg, SD, and Jim (lifelong friend, Kathleen Daly) Hill of Aberdeen; brother, Fr. Tim (Bernerd) Mock of Mariannhill Mission , MI; 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gust I. Hill; siblings: Alex Mock, Sr. Leonilla (Elizabeth) Mock, Sr. Clare (Mary) Mock, Genevieve Mock, Helen (Frank) Johns, Kathryn (Lynn) Sampson, Agnes Witkowski, Fr. David (William) Mock.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to St. Mary’s Church or the Roncalli School system.
