Mark Reis

Mark Robert Reis, 84, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at his home.

Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 18, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Aberdeen, with Fr. Michael Kapperman officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial, with military honors, is at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Aberdeen.

Mark Robert Reis was born May 13, 1937 to Michael and Eva (Burckhard) Reis in Aberdeen, SD.  This is where he was raised and attended Aberdeen Central High School. Mark entered the US Army in 1957 and was stationed in Germany. After his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Mark returned to Aberdeen and started Reis Truck Lines.

Mark was married to Audrey Vilhauer in Aberdeen on December 31, 1965.  He later sold Reis Truck Lines in 1970.  Mark managed North Star Oil Company and also worked for Milwaukee Railroad and Burlington Northern Railroad.  Mark also drove semi-truck for CENEX Truck Line where he received his Million Mile Award and Driver of the Year Award.  Mark drove truck across the country and also drove double as he was a senior driving teacher for many years until he retired.

Mark was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting in his younger years.  He enjoyed shooting trap and playing cards.  Mark was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 47 years and helped many others going through the process.  He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared Mark’s life are his daughters, Michele (Bruce) Mastel of Mitchell, SD and Aimee (Neil) Chalmers of Albert Lea, MN; son, John (Bry) Reis of Leola, SD; brother, Ray Reis; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, sons: Colin Mark, Markus Robert, and David James; and six brothers.
