Marjorie “Margie” Ann Kerwin was born on October 16, 1941, to William and Bridget Elizabeth (Schoenfelder) Kerwin. She was the youngest of five children, all of whom were boys. She attended Kennebec Public School and graduated in 1959. During her time in high school, she played basketball as well as cheerleading. She babysat and did various other odd jobs. During her senior year, she went to work for John Larson, whose children she babysat for, at Larson & Sundal Law Office doing secretarial work. At that time, John recommended her to Dick Kelly at the Kennebec Lumber Company in Kennebec and Chamberlain. In the Chamberlain Lumber Company, Dick needed a bookkeeper, and Margie eagerly took the job. Margie was very thankful to everyone in Kennebec for providing her jobs during high school.

While working at the Chamberlain Lumber Company, Marge met and fell in love with Lawrence Vogel, who was working at a competing Lumber Company in Chamberlain. During their courtship, her boss teased her about giving away trade secrets. They were married on June 24, 1961. Before starting a family, Marge worked at St. Joseph Indian School.

After giving birth to four children in five years, she decided to go back to work. Marge went to work at Northwestern Public Service, where she started as a bookkeeper and later transferred to Yankton to work in the home extension office. After several years, she was offered an opportunity to run the new call center in Huron, SD. In 2000, Marge retired and moved to Aberdeen to be closer to family. Retirement was not busy enough for Marge. She found her second calling and decided to go to work at Avera St. Luke’s, where she both worked and volunteered for 20 years. She enjoyed meeting and talking to all the volunteers as well as the patients. She was so proud of all the steps she got in walking through the halls and she would give her family updates after each workday.

Marge enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, watching and always competing against her children in every sport. She was always competitive in a pickup game of basketball or whiffle ball! You did not want to be around her when she lost. She would spend hours watching NBA Basketball. We nicknamed her LeMarge in honor of her dislike of Lebron James. She enjoyed Sunday Mass and breakfast with her family in her later years. She was especially happy when her grandchildren and later great-grandchildren would visit her. Although she did not get to meet them all she loved them very much. Marge was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen, SD.

Marge is survived by her sons Larry (Suzanne) Vogel of Aberdeen, SD, Douglas Vogel of Aberdeen, SD, and Marty (Wendy) Vogel of Tucson, AZ; daughter Ame (Tim) Andera of DeFuniak Springs, FL; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; her parents; and four brothers: Bill (Genevieve), Joe, Dennis (Rhoda) and Bob (Janice).
