Marion "Buck" L. Bown

Marion Lyle “Buck” Bown, age 87, formerly of Mobridge, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.
A graveside Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 12:30 p.m., at Greenwood Cemetery in Mobridge with Brent Alkire officiating.

Buck Bown was born May 31, 1926 to James and Clara (Wilding) Bown of Onida, SD. The youngest of eight brothers, he grew up on the Bown Brothers Ranch east of Agar. In 1944 he graduated from Gettysburg High School as valedictorian of his class.
On January 15, 1949, he and Alma Olson were married in Pierre. Buck and Alma made their home on the family ranch, where their four children were born. After 17 years on the ranch, the family moved to Aberdeen, where he was a professional house painter. In 1979, they moved to Mobridge where they enjoyed living near the Missouri River and fishing. He took great pride in his yard and garden, raising and selling vegetables. He enjoyed his time on the golf course and enjoyed recounting baseball stories from his younger days.
In June of 2013 with failing health, he became a resident of Aberdeen Health and Rehab nursing facility.
He is survived by a son Steven, of Huron; two daughters, Carol (Ron) Passmore of Huron and Nola (Bob) Spoerl of Madison WI; a brother, Sidney of Pierre; four grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma, son David, his parents and six brothers.
