Marie M. Rieck, 93, of Pierre, SD, and formerly of Aberdeen, died Sunday, June 21, 2015, at her home in Pierre.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 3rd Avenue SE, Aberdeen, with Father Mark Axtmann, Celebrant.
Burial will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Aberdeen.
Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is handling arrangements.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, at the mortuary followed by a Liturgical Wake and rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before Mass at church Thursday.
Memorial services will be held in Pierre, SD, at a later date.
Marie M. (Artz) Rieck was born on November 15, 1921, in Aberdeen, SD, to Mathias H. and Catherine Ann (Senske) Artz. She attended parochial school and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1940. Marie then became employed at and managed various dry cleaners, where she worked for many, many years.
Marie was united in marriage to Rudolph Rieck on February 14, 1947, in Aberdeen. Their union was blessed with three sons and two daughters. In addition to being a homemaker, Marie continued working for dry cleaners in Aberdeen. The couple shared 40 years of marriage before Rudolph passed away in 1987. Marie then moved to Pierre, SD, where she continued to reside until the time of her death.
Marie was a woman of faith and was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a member of Catholic Daughters, Altar Society Band 9 and Angel of Mercy Rosary Club, as well as volunteering for various church activities and being involved in many prayer groups. In her spare time, Marie enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives. She especially loved gardening and sharing the produce with friends.
Blessed to have shared Marie's life are her children: Ronald E. Rieck and James E. (Mary) Rieck, both of Aberdeen, and Kathleen Marie (David) Like and Janine A. (Dennis) Huber, both of Pierre; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph; son, Richard; parents, one brother, Matt; three sisters: Catherine Bestgen, Virginia Markovetz and Natalie Schuring; and two grandsons.
