Marie E. (Daly) Bain

December 18, 1925 — April 28, 2014

Mass of Christian Burial for Marie E. Bain, 88, of Aberdeen and formerly Frederick, SD will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 2, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Westport, SD, with Marie’s son, Father Ken Bain, Celebrant and Father Tom Anderson, con-celebrating. Burial will take place at Wayside Cemetery in Frederick, SD.

Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may sign her online guestbook at schriversmemorial.com.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, at the mortuary with a Liturgical Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues for one hour prior to Mass at the church on Friday.

Marie passed away Monday, April 28, 2014, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. Blessed be her memory.

Marie E. (Daly) Bain was born on December 18, 1925 in Columbia, South Dakota to Rose (McClain) and Walter Daly. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1943 and immediately enrolled in a Summer Teacher Certification Program at Northern State College in Aberdeen. During her five years as a teacher, she taught in rural schools in both the McIntosh and Frederick areas, and in the Claremont Schools.

In 1948, Marie married Leslie Bain. During the first years of their marriage, they resided in Aberdeen and at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. They moved to Frederick, S.D. in 1951. Marie assisted Leslie with his veterinary medicine practice for almost a quarter of a century. Six children were born to Marie and Leslie: twins Micheal Bain of Frederick, SD and Ronald Bain (deceased), twins Karen (Roger) Cooper of Aberdeen and Ken Bain of Garretson, SD, James (Claudia) Bain of Frederick, SD and Gerry (Harlan) Krier of St. Louis, MO.

Marie enjoyed sharing her home with family and friends. She served in many leadership roles during her years in the Frederick community. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Westport for more than 50 years and member of both Alpha Circle and PTA in Frederick. Gardening and golfing were activities she enjoyed during retirement. In 2007, Marie moved to Davis Court Apartments in Aberdeen. There she welcomed frequent opportunities to volunteer within the Mother Joseph Manor Retirement Community. In 2013, Marie moved to Mother Joseph Manor.

Marie’s additional survivors include six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Daly; nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Bain in 1986, infant son Ronald, her parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
