Margaret “Alice” Schmidt, 92, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Aberdeen, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016, at her residence in Sioux Falls.
Mass of Christian burial will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 409 2nd Avenue NE, Aberdeen, with Father D’Cruz Nicholas as Celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, at the mortuary, followed by a liturgical wake service and rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to Mass at the church on Monday.

Margaret Alice Gibson was born August 4, 1924, in Aberdeen, SD, to Clarence Lee and Ethel (Reilly) Gibson. She attended Sacred Heart Parochial School before attending Aberdeen Central High School, where she was active in band and the orchestra. Following high school graduation in 1942, Alice furthered her education at Northern State College and Aberdeen School of Commerce, both in Aberdeen.
Alice was united in marriage to Edward Michael “Bud” Schmidt at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen on November 17, 1945. Their union was blessed with two children, Rhonda and Ronald. The family made Aberdeen their home, where in addition to being a wife and mother, Alice was also employed at Spaulding Auto Company, Artz Camera Supply, and Control Data Corporation before retiring in June of 1989. Alice and Bud shared 59 years of marriage before he passed away on November 7, 2005, just 10 days shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. Alice continued to reside in Aberdeen until 2012, when she moved to Sioux Falls, SD, to be closer to family.
Alice was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen and was very involved in the Altar Society. She was also a past member of Business and Professional Women and Credit Women International. In her spare time, Alice enjoyed making ceramic pieces, doing needlework, and playing Bridge. She also enjoyed making and collecting Santa Claus figurines and had accumulated a vast collection of approximately 350 figurines over the years.
Blessed to have shared in Alice’s life are her children, Rhonda (Robert) Weinmeister of Sioux Falls, SD and Ronald E. (Diane) Schmidt of Aberdeen; seven grandchildren: Kris (David) Gunther, Rob (Stacey) Weinmeister, Kim (Jason) Butzin, Becky Weinmeister, Brian (Laura) Weinmeister, Casey Schmidt, and Rachel Schmidt; 14 great-grandchildren: Cody (fiancé Kayla Clayton) Gunther, Jazmin Butzin, Ellie Weinmeister, Alexis Butzin, Brandon Butzin, Keilly Gunther, Riley Weinmeister, Gavin Weinmeister, Kayla Weinmeister, Brody Weinmeister, Clara Lee Weinmeister, Oliver Schmidt, Demaurian Weinmeister, Lucas Weinmeister; one brother, Carroll (Marj) Gibson of Aurora, CO; one sister, Joan (Marvin) Grueneich of Ellendale, ND; one sister-in-law, Cynthia Gibson of Pleasanton, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother, Roy Gibson.
