Margaret H. (Hord) Kindelspire was born February 27, 1914, to John and Frances (Kelly) Hord on a farm 10 miles NE of Leola, SD. This is the area where she was raised and attended school. Margaret often reminicised about fond childhood memories she had of joining the neighborhood children sledding and skating in the winter months and attending barn dances and Sunday community baseball games during the summer near the family farm.
Margaret attended beauty school in Minneapolis, MN, in 1935 before purchasing the Modern Beauty Salon in Leola in 1937 and managing it until the summer of 1940, when she sold it.
Margaret married Byron F. Kindelspire on January 17, 1940, at Leola. To this union five children were born: Kelly, Gayle, Paul, Correen, and Leo. The family made their home on the farm, where Byron farmed and Margaret raised their children, while remaining active in the community. Margaret joined the Country Club in 1941 and remained an active member for 53 years. She also served as Assistant Leader and Leader for 4-H, County Extension Chairwoman, Historian, and Secretary, as well as the President of the Town and Country Ladies group. Margaret was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where she served as CCD Teacher, Officer in the Ladies Circle and Chairwoman for many annual fall suppers.
Margaret and Byron retired in the spring of 1979, to a home in Leola. In her retirement she found new interests and activities. Margaret became actively involved with Leola's Rhubarb Celebration and was one of the charter members of the Leola Community Heritage Museum. In addition to serving as the museum's Treasurer, Margaret and Byron spent many hours cleaning windows and varnishing in the depot building. They also volunteered their time by helping maintain the grounds and shingle the roof.
Margaret is survived by her children: Kelly (Colleen) Kindelspire of Yakima, WA, Gayle (Randy) Fauth of Aberdeen, Paul (Joan) Kindelspire of New Hope, MN, and Leo (Kathi) Kindelspire of Bismarck, ND; son-in-law Rick Mogck of Jamestown, ND; sister-in-law, Vera Nelson; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Byron; daughter, Correen; parents, John and Frances; and siblings: Bill Hord, Paul Hord, Kathryn Kindelspire and Mary Hord.
