Margaret Mary (Jung) Dell

Margaret Mary Dell, 89, of Aberdeen, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, November 21, 2020, following a long stay at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

A private, closed funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Avenue NW, Aberdeen, with Father Andrew Dickenson, of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiating.

Burial follows at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

Visitation, open to the public , will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday at the mortuary.

Margaret Mary Jung was born May 3, 1931, in Zeeland, North Dakota to Philipp and Barbara (Lacher) Jung.   She started elementary school at a country school near Greenway, SD.  The family then moved to a farm near Westport, SD, where she continued her schooling through 12th grade.

Margaret completed her education in Rochester, MN with Nurses Training and worked at St. Mary’s Hospital before marrying Edwin Marquette in 1952.  She worked in various hospitals before moving back to South Dakota.  While in Aberdeen she worked in several doctor’s offices.

She married Leslie Dell in February of 1963.  In the 60’s and 70’s Margaret helped develop the Association for Retarded Children (ARC) program to improve the lives and education of special needs individuals.  In 1972, Margaret and Leslie moved to a farm near Conde, South Dakota where they farmed and ranched until 1989.  She moved back to Aberdeen in 1993 and continued to work in home healthcare until she retired in 2005.

Margaret was known for her caring, generous, and hardworking nature.  She loved her grandchildren and loved to paint, travel, garden, go Country Western dancing and planning Jung family reunions.  She was active in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, American Legion Club of Conde, the Aberdeen Eagles Club and the Moose Lodge.

Margaret is survived by her children:  Barbara (Gregg) Johnson of Temecula, CA, Michael (Sharon) Dell of Rapid City, SD, daughter-in-law, Barbara Heim Dell of Watertown, SD, Teresa Marquette of Huron, SD, Caroline Susie Dell of Aberdeen and James (Cindy) Dell of Cottage Grove, WI; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.   Also surviving Margaret are her sisters:  Evelyn Artz of Aberdeen, Mary Ann Marquette of Okeechobee FL and Teresa Remien of Graham, WA.

Margaret was preceded in death by both husbands, Edwin Marquette and Leslie Dell; three children:  her twins, Lawrence and Lenora and her son, Daniel; her parents, Philipp and Barbara; and her siblings:  Leo, Elizabeth, Tony, Francis, and Phillip.
