In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Kim Runnels, 414 S. Main St., Aberdeen, SD, 57401.

Marc Alan Runnels was born to Jerry and Mary Runnels on July 1, 1968, in Hobbs, New Mexico. At a young age, they moved to Texas and then New Orleans, where Marc grew up.

He loved water skiing on Lake Pontchartrain, fishing (especially with his Dad), riding his Harley with Kim, hunting, Mardi Gras, eating good food, spending time with his family and friends, and found joy in cooking for others.

During High School, he developed an interest in refurbishing cars, which led him to attend and graduate from technical school in Diesel mechanics. Shortly after graduation, he got married and had two beautiful children, Lorien and Cameron. The opportunity to attend commercial truck driving school opened, and he attended, graduated, and began a career as a long-haul truck driver. He loved traveling, and this gave him the opportunity to see much of the United States. After several years of marriage, he became a single Dad.

After Hurricane Katrina struck, he relocated to Dallas, Texas, with much of his family. He was blessed to find a local driving job that allowed him to spend more time at home. His sister and brother-in-law had a restaurant in the Dallas area, and Marc tried out his culinary talents as a breakfast cook on the weekends. He had always wanted to have a food truck at a young age when a food truck would frequent his father’s business. Working at his sister’s encouraged him more to open his own food truck or restaurant. Then the Bakken oil boom hit in North Dakota, and he was recruited as a winch truck driver and then a Hot Oil Driver in Watford City, ND. It was there that he met his best friend and the love of his life (he always called her his dream girl), Kim Weisz, in 2012. They ended up selling the home in Texas and buying one in Aberdeen, SD. Marc continued working in the oilfields as Kim moved to the house in Aberdeen, where they called home.

On September 28, 2018, Marc and Kim got married, and his family grew, with additional daughters Brandi and Megan and a son, Deres. Together, Marc and Kim ordered their food truck and drove all the way to Waycross, GA, to pick it up, and so the journey began. His dream was to own his own food truck. They opened it on his birthday, July 1, 2022 and had a great following and operated the truck for 3 years before opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant on November 3rd, 2025. Pop’s Big Easy came to life, and he was so proud of what he and Kim had accomplished.

Everyone who knew Marc was not surprised when he and Kim welcomed a blessing into their home, a beautiful little girl named Zuriah, who joined the family in 2025.

Marc is survived by his wife, Kim Runnels; Mother, Mary Runnels; Daughters: Lorien (Austin) Parker, of Lumberton, MS, Brandi (Kevin) Linderman of Aberdeen SD, Megan McKittrick of Aberdeen SD; Sons: Cameron (Melissa) Runnels, of Dickinson, ND, and Deres (Sheena) McKittrick of Aberdeen, SD and A very Special “Daughter” Shay (Michael) Fowler of Pascagoula, MS; granddaughters: Hailey, Shayla, Adalyah, Emma, Ella, Delaney, Lenox, Rori, and Special granddaughters Zuriah, Josephine & Brealeigh; Grandsons: Braxton, Blaize, Richter, Jameson, Nolan, Harrison & Reston and Special grandson Dustin; Sisters: Debbie (Buddy) Dennis, Karen (Bill) Cousineau, and Beth (Dennis) Morel; Sister in laws: Wanda (Terry) Block and Kandi Weismantel; Brother in laws: Scott (Jil) Weisz and Mike Weisz; along with many nieces and nephews.
